 Misal Pav Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of moth beans
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 chopped tomato
  • ¼ cup of dry coconut
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tsp chopped ginger
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tsp mustard and cumin seeds
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder 
  • 2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp of chopped jaggery
  • 5 cups of water
  • 2 cups of farsan
  • 4 pav
  • Salt as needed

Method:

  • In a mixer, combine 2 tsp oil, ginger, garlic, onion, tomato, coconut and half cup of water. Grind it to a smooth paste and set it aside. 
  • In a pressure cooker, combine moth beans, half tsp of turmeric, one cup of water and a pinch of salt. Allow it to cook for 2 whistles Set it aside. 
  • Heat some oil in a vessel and add mustard and cumin seeds Once it starts spluttering, add curry leaves, pinch of turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala. Now add the prepared masala paste and saute for a few minutes. 
  • To this, add cooked moth beans, jaggery and 3 cups of water and allow it to simmer for 5-6 minutes. Once the oil starts appearing on top of the misal, turn the flame off.
  • Add farsan and chopped onions, garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot with pav.

Appam and Stew

Appam and stew Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of soaked rice
  • 2 cups of coconut milk
  • ½ cup of cooked rice
  • 1 chopped potato
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 finely chopped green chillis
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp yeast
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 cinnamon stick 
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 2 cups of water 
  • Salt and pepper as needed

Method:

  • Combine soaked rice, cooked rice and half a cup of coconut milk and blend it into a smooth mixture. To this, add sugar, remaining coconut milk and a pinch of salt. Add lukewarm water to the yeast and add this to the rice batter. Cover it with a lid and set it aside for 2-3 hours. 
  • Grease the appam kadhai with some oil and add a ladleful of the appam batter, slowly rotating the kadhai to form a thin and even layer of appam. Allow it to cook for 2-3 minutes. Repeat the same step to prepare all appams.
  • Meanwhile to prepare the stew, heat some oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and cinnamon stick. Once it starts spluttering, add curry leaves.
  • To this, add chopped onions and green chillis. Saute for 2-3 minutes till the onions turn translucent. Now add potatoes and two cups of water. Allow it to simmer for 5-6 minutes.
  • Now add half a cup of coconut milk, salt and pepper as needed and bring it to a boil.
  • Serve the appam and vegetable stew hot and aromatic.
